Recreating Brazil amid the apocalyptic weather of this Glaswegian summer isn't easy
| 08 Sep 2007
Despite the efforts of the Trocabrahma promotions team, recreating Brazil amid the apocalyptic weather of this Glaswegian summer isn't easy, and it requires rather more than plonking palm trees next to the bar. However, although DJ sets from members of the distinctly un-Brazilian Arab Strap and Belle and Sebastian open proceedings, tonight's holiday vibe is spot on. The sunshine is provided by the toned-down Polyphonic Spree antics of relentlessly joyful choir Open Field Church, with Four Tet's perfectly tripped out beats taking us through to nightfall. Everyone from uber-cool musos to what looks suspiciously like the remnants of a hen party are dancing wildly, and while it's not much of a visual spectacle (he keeps his head down, flitting between samplers, sequencers and two laptops), he has complete control of the room. When he joins forces with Open Field Church for the finale, there's not a single person in the room who isn't smiling. Deliciously uplifting. [Heather Crumley]
