What better encasement for the sound of the grimy 200+ bpm underground than
the dark chamber that is upstairs at Studio 24. It's a beautiful, brutal
hardcore line up - not for the faint hearted, as they say - which elucidates
the choice audience perfectly: a small but happy family of tek-nuts and k-droids. The Nuthouse theme manifests itself in the form of be-dreaded hostess types in rubber nurses outfits, sweetly administering to those already hanging onto the asylum's walls. Riff Glitchard delivers an appropriatelyglitchy hardcore set, seamlessly followed by Alkemist and his brand of dark industrial and hardcore techno. Smurf of Geordie Gabba Mafia never shows, so a pissed but noble Tekamine takes the floor, and smashes it up with duttybreakcore. Pedigree Scum's Zonk is next on the bill, roaring through a live hardcore set, followed by Infared, Blackpool's best in hard-tek and gabber, vs Tormented Boy; a one-off, and a hell of a treat. Last, but of course, not least, special guest Ely Muff of the notorious Hackney Headfuk parties, stands to deliver a vicious, juddering half hour mash-up of live breakcore, hardcore and d&b which raises animal noises from the stamping audience onslaught. Not for the faint hearted, but a bloody good night. [Rosie Mclean]
