Carl Finlow - Count On It

Count On It is definitely not hard on the ears

Single Review by Alex Burden | 14 Aug 2006
Label: Seventh Sign
The lesser-known Carl Finlow is better known as Silicon Scally and Random Factor, among others, and for his work with DJ Ralph Lawson, fellow-founder of 20/20 Vision Records. He's been writing and recording music for twenty years, giving him plenty of occasion to iron out the wrinkles for a shapely piece every time. This is his debut on Glasgow's Seventh Sign label, and he marks it with a deep house offering – it is slick and smooth without fault, so much so that you're left feeling rather neutral about the tracks. Count On It is punctuated by deep waves and staccato keyboard, but it has a snarled lip about it, and is fairly unrecognisable as house due in part to the overtly electro sounds that permeate. Reprise's surprising chill-out feel sports a decidedly tense melody, presenting an agreeable conjunction. Altogether, Count On It is definitely not hard on the ears. [Alex Burden]
