Boogaloo Bothy @ Henry's Cellar Bar, Edinburgh, May 19

It all reminded you of when funk was the dirty nasty sound from outer space

The Boogaloo began with beats served with warm and toasty compliments of Monterey Jack, and wallflowers became few and far between once Digital Jones took the stage. Conjuring the boogie demons they preached a rhythm that left one helpless; the slithery grooves of a female vocalist made the sermon gospel. It all reminded you of when funk was the dirty nasty sound from outer space. A tough act to follow for Astroboy, but he managed to replace feet with rockets, just like his namesake. The Boogaloo Bothy was the best bits of a house party – all there was to do was drink, talk and dance, dance, dance. [Lee Boyes]
