Az-tech Launch Night, The Caves, Edinburgh, 9 Mar

An off-the-wall clubbing experience enjoyed wholeheartedly by the horde of punters populating the solid stone dance area

A better launch night would be hard to come by, and during its energetic break onto the Edinburgh scene, Az-tech squelches, thumps and twists its way through an evening of dynamic breaks and electronic bass. The Caves, which is carefully being re-invented as a club venue, is a fantastic setting. They set about effortlessly creating an off-the-wall clubbing experience enjoyed wholeheartedly by the horde of punters populating the solid stone dance area and candle-lit bars and back rooms. It's back to back for the warm up and residents Siren, Re:tox and Al Majik blast through smooth mixes, testing out the hard-assed sound system which is more than adequate for the venue. Defcon1 styles differently with a cutting approach to his mixes, while Chew the Fat's Bradley C assaults the dancefloor with electro breaks spanning both new and old cuts - alongside is vocalist MC Nafees. Az-tech is a refreshing addition and far from ancient, so whack on your dancing sandals and keep on the look out for the next instalment of the latest breaks night on the block. [Jonny Ogg]
