Ali Love - Love Music

Successfully twisting the three-minute pop template to his own ends

Album Review by Colin Chapman | 08 Sep 2007
Album title: Love Music
Artist: Ali Love
Label: Columbia
First catching the public ear thanks to his appearance on the Chemical Brothers Do It Again single, Ali Love shows he's got more up his sleeve than a just a novelty vocal. Tales of 24-hour partying and love on the dancefloor on Late Night Sessions and Secret Sunday Love are sure to strike a chord with those who share his passion for clubbing. However, Love Music displays a versatility that goes beyond catchy dance-pop anthems. Psychedelic sixties-style pop (Shangri-La), indie, and glam rock (Rebound Lover, K-Hole) are also given the Love treatment, and there's definitely a nod to eighties soul à la Hall & Oates too. Successfully twisting the three-minute pop template to his own ends, Ali refuses to take himself too seriously in the process – if dance music means more to you than the latest po-faced, minimal 12" there's something to enjoy here.
