Tweek, Cabaret Voltaire, Aug 10 (FOR SKINNYFEST 1)

Adding the crescendo to the end of the culture vultures' evenings

Article by Alex Burden | 14 Aug 2006
Bruno F-K, Chris Spence and Chris Thompson envisioned a club without the snobbery and clique attributes of the club scene – and a move away from pigeon-holing nights by genre. They hope they can attract a wider audience with their blend of techno, electro, house and breaks, and the odd diversion along the way. Trying out their new formula for the first time at Cabaret Voltaire, during the busiest time of year for Edinburgh, they'll be adding the crescendo to the end of the culture vultures' evenings. They've snagged Radio Babylon headman Brainstorm for a return to the decks after his recent farewell to Pure and The Venue, and he'll be unleashing his set on interested new ears and probably a few old fans on the night. Having played with the likes of Juan Atkins, Richie Hawtin and Derrick May, Brainstorm's DJing has become second nature. Support comes from Karnival resident Ryan Ellis (Majestica), and Bruno F-K (Majestica), and DJ Believe (Split/Bass Syndicate/Bio-Rhythm) and Ian Brandon (Obscene/Split) in the back room, who will be bringing up the rear with a breaks onslaught and other kinetically-charged sentiments. If you come along and help make this a success, there are plans to bring back Tweek every few months with a special party and a few more treats. For their opening night however, there are some extra specials that even Marks and Spencers couldn't do: a 5am licence courtesy of festival hours, £1.50 mainline spirits with mixer, and a selection of £1.70 beers.
