The Drum & Bass Curriculum June 07

Feature by Jonny Ogg | 10 Jun 2007
Hands up for Drum and Bass? O.k, how about Breaks? And Dubstep? And Grime, Baile Funk, Jungle & Hip Hop? Top notch, I reckon we've got everyone covered, and what a month of left of field acts we have for you.

Don't you just hate it when the first of the month falls on a Friday, only because you know by about 3am on Saturday your gonna have spent most of that hard earned wonga. Well, no luck here then, as Xplicit on 1 June kicks us off with Commercial Suicide head honcho, Klute, touring his latest album The Emperor's New Clothes at The Bongo Club. Residents in support as well as an exclusive old school set from The General (10.30pm–3am, £10). If breaks is more your bag, Az Tech supply a serious alternative on the same night with Groove Alliance headlining at The Caves. Both decks and live bass feature in this feast of funk and Az Tech residents are thrown in for good measure, (10pm–3am, £6). Saturday 9 June sees Volume at Club Ego. Here you'll find the Grime, Baile Funk, Jungle & Hip Hop I was on about and in an intimate and hardwearing venue perfect for the job. Ibrahim, P-Haze, Profisee and Termite are playing for a bargain £3 before 12am, and the party's rockin' till 3am. Friday 15 June brings an early start with Codenine at the City Café from 9pm followed up by a doubler at Sequential. The Studio 24 club sees 1Xtra's Sappo along side DJ Marky's protégé, Bungle, who is touring his critically acclaimed album Down To Earth. The night kicks off at 10.30pm(-3am), at a cost of £8. Finally, Red Alert hits the Wee Red Bar on 22 June featuring Sequential Residents Slowmotion Ninja and Weak Hunt: their own residents start the evening and visuals are provided by Interface Labs (10.30pm, £5).

So, just to make sure, everyone has something that might tickle his or her fancy, yes?
