This month sees Belgian duo Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet, aka Spirit Catcher, make their first live appearance at Subculture. As the son of a Sound Engineer, Jean has been exposed to music for as long as he can remember. He spent his formative years in many a recording studio growing up in the company of musicians, so it was perhaps no accident he began playing drums at the age of 12. He moved into electronic production in his teens, setting up his own home studio with a few analogue synths that he used to produce his first record, released when he was only seventeen. The first of many solo productions, he's also followed in his father's footsteps and learnt his trade as a Sound Engineer, opening his own recording studio in the summer of 2000. Thomas began his musical life playing keyboards in many a Belgian funk band before going on to compose, produce and record music for commercials and video games, including Walt Disney's Monsters Inc spin-off. Thanks to their heavy involvement in music it was only a matter of time before the two crossed paths. They began producing their own take on dance music and Spirit Catcher was born. Their future disco grooves have been influenced by Herbie Hancock, George Duke and Zapp, and have proved much in demand with house labels such as Silver Network, Freerange, Winding Road, Missive, 20:20 Vision and Moodmusic.
