Raw Records & Tru Thought, Departure Lounge, March 31

A double header that's sure to get you vibrating in all the right places

Departure Lounge at Edinburgh's The Caves opens its doors once again for another evening of music, mirth and much dancing, playing host to a double header that's sure to get you vibrating in all the right places. The double bill on March 31 sees the doyennes of the Danish jazz-fusion scene Povo playing live, and a DJ set from Brighton's Diesler, laying down some funky hip hop, with support from DJ Astroboy and Cammy on percussion. Anders Andreasen and Lars Vissing are Povo (meaning 'people' in portugese), pioneers of that out-there Scandinavian fusion sound of jazz and sampled beats, here promoting their long awaited album 'We Are Povo'. Next up is Jonathan Radford aka Diesler who is one of the stalwart artists on the Tru Thought imprint which Gilles Peterson voted record label of the year 2005, and is home to other notables Quantic, Bonobo, Nostalgia 77 and Alice Russell, to name but a few. Expect a diverse night of soul, jazz and that kind of funk you just cant get elsewhere. Be sure to get there early; Departure Lounge has carved itself a unique niche in the Edinburgh music scene, and with regular collective nights Four Corners and Saturday Night Fish Fry, the Lounge crew has an ever-growing following of funked-up disciples. If you see a queue, and you're late, you now know why.
