Paul 'Trouble' Arnold, Chew The Fat!, The Sub Club, Glasgow, July 21

Experience a club with love handles. Grab on and hold tight!

Article by Bram Gieben | 15 Jul 2006
This month's Chew The Fat! party sees Fat! Records head honcho (the man who started it all back in 1997 at the Bug Bar in Brixton) Paul 'Trouble' Arnold gracing the decks. Set to release a mix CD soon in association with London club The End, Arnold is one of the pioneers of the UK breakbeat scene. Fat! Records have released some classics over the last decade or so from artists like Precision Cuts (also playing tonight) and Friendly and Tayo, with their sound generally displaying a clean, uplifting line in melody, a fast tempo and some rolling bass lines. New signings Baobinga & ID present Big Monster also join the fray, with a sound reputed to take in elements of Detroit techno and upfront acid. Fat! Records is one of the best labels on the scene, consistently diverse and always pushing the boundaries of breaks music. Chew The Fat! itself is the longest running devoted breaks night in the UK (possibly the world?) and as such their forays north of the border are eagerly anticipated. Catch the man who started the ball rolling - experience a club with love handles. Grab on and hold tight! [Bram Gieben]
