This month the volume is turned down on bass wobbles, and turned up on lyrical flows and cut and paste sounds – in short, hip-hop! The sound of the Mixkings will depend upon which of the Mixkings steps up to the decks. When DJ Bunty’s there, there may well be liquid lyrics, orchestrated backdrops, broken up by chunky, rough scratching – if it’s DJ Rumager, expect something from the funky old-skool flipside - and then there are more Mixkings besides. The Edinburgh-based Capitol 1212 will also be there, spinning a live set based on their new EP ‘Raw and Disorder’. They are also purveyors of varied styles, moving from hip-hop reggae (reggae with rapping), to hip-hop drum and bass (drum and bass with rapping), to hip-hop soul (as it says). Their sound is warm, with global tastes of vocal and instrumental samples. Termite and Profisee will also be supporting. [Josh Coppersmith-Heaven]
