Matthias Tanzmann @ tictactoe, 31 Dec

For clubbers looking to celebrate the turn of the decade a little differently, tictactoe’s Hogmanay offering may provide the perfect option.

A newcomer to Glasgow’s clubscene, the house and techno night tictactoe launched in May with Canadian Wagon Repair artist and DJ, Konrad Black joining resident/promoter, Andrew Doran at the decks.

Since then it’s become a monthly fixture at Stereo, welcoming the likes of Detroit’s Seth Troxler, Robert Dietz of Cecille Records, Minus-recording artist, Barem and No Dough’s, Broken to play.

“I had the idea of starting tictactoe two years ago”, says Andrew. “I wanted to try and establish something fresh and upbeat; bring DJs and producers to Glasgow that perhaps hadn’t played here before. It’s solo venture, but friends help me out with PR”.

To sign-off a successful year in style, Andrew’s organised a special eleven-hour session this Hogmanay, but instead of hosting this marathon party in a nightclub, he has chosen a much more unusual venue.

Situated on Glasgow Green, West is a working brewery, bar and venue nestled amongst the iconic Victorian grandeur of the former, hugely successful Templeton Carpet Factory, which during the first half of the twentieth century supplied the likes of the West Wing of The Whitehouse and The Taj Mahal.

“We decided we wanted to offer something a bit different for the Glaswegian clubber”, Andrew explains. “The first time I was in West two years ago I was impressed not only by how stunning it was but also its perfect layout for a party; one large room and a smaller chill-out room, adjacent. Why not see in the New Year in a beautiful, historic location, rather than a dark nightclub? Going ahead with it was a bit of risk but the interest in the event has been massive and this has been reflected by the ticket sales”.

Of course, the buzz surrounding the event is not just the result of its rather unique spot; but also the quality of its DJ line-up, in particular headliner, Matthias Tanzmann.

Best known for his residency at DC10’s Circoloco in Ibiza, the German has been DJing since the mid-nineties, releasing his first productions working alongside Daniel Scholz as Gamat 3000 in 1999, before joining forces with André Quaas to establish the Moon Harbour label a year later.

Releasing his first album, ‘All Seasons’, under the Gamat 3000 guise in 2001, Matthias went onto gain residencies at Distillery (Leipzig), Monza (Frankfurt), Flokati (Munich) and Le Club (Valencia) and also notched up several international guest appearances, while also finding the time to produce tracks with Daniel Stefanik and Steve Bug and work on his own solo productions, including last year’s full length debut, ‘Restless’.

Joining him will be No Dough label artists, Towie and Broken, as well as a host of local talent, including Soma Records’ producer, Harvey McKay and DJs such as Simon Stokes of Sleaze, Hotbox’s Daniel Hedley, Terry Whyte of Optik, EQd’s Bobby Wilson and of course, resident Andrew.

For those keen to start 2010 in full-on partying mode, proceedings don’t just have to come to an end after eleven hours at West. Buses have been laid on to take the more marathon party-goers on a short trip to an after-party at The Winchester club, situated in the Merchant City, making tictactoe a real, value-for-money proposition for those clubber's still yet undecided on how to spend New Year’s Eve.

2pm - 1am. Followed by an after party running from 1am - 4am at The Winchester Club, 49 Bell Street, Glasgow. Buses running from West brewery to The Winchester Club, £2 payable to the driver. Entry to after party available only to those with event ticket stub.
