His recorded output covers many tempos, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks

Since his '97 debut album on Essex techno imprint A13, John Tejada (Palette Recordings) has flirted with virtually every electronic style under the sun, from techno through house to drum and bass. Probably best known for his subtle brand of techno, his recorded output covers many tempos, from chilled-out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks. More recently he's revealed yet another musical side to his personality. His recording with Japanese guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto as I'm Not a Gun, has shown he can make a place for himself in post-rock circles, mixing electronic and acoustic sounds in the Tortoise tradition.

The son of a celebrated soprano and an acclaimed conductor, Tejada left Austria for the warmer climes of Southern California at age eight. Driven by a love of hip hop, he began experimenting with electronic equipment in his mid-teens and released his early works on the aforementioned A13, going on to produce for a multitude of labels including 7th City, Ferox, Organised Noise, Multiplex and R & S. His own Palette imprint, set-up in 1996, has served as an exclusive outlet for his own prodigious talent, though he does continue to record for other labels, often in collaboration with Arian Leviste, his recording partner since 1991.
