Iridium First Birthday, Basura Blanca, Glasgow, August 26

This party is also an attempt to regain the Test vibe, plus the doors will be open until 3am instead of the usual 2am so plenty more time for cake and party poppers.

Glasgow has become littered with tempting electronic nights of late. Mind The Gap, Emergency, Seismic, Point One and Numbers are all bringing through a platter of lesser-known guests. Basura Blanca's regular night Iridium has primarily hosted local talent like The Wee DJs and Glasgow's Sleepless Crew, but has also brought up foreigners like Uglyfunk's Cut Out and Birmingham's Sir Real. Their promotion clearly focuses on at least one live act a night, with DJ sets spanning experimental electro, wonky techno, hip hop and grimey noise all stewed up together. Twelve months on and the first birthday party welcomes one of the founders of the Sativae label, Steve Glencross (Sativae / Predicaments, Neue Heimat) to play a set with DJ Sueme (Subhead, Dotcom, 2cb, Neue Heimat, Sativae / Drought) also performing live with an additional bonus DJ set.

Steve played resident alongside Dave Tarrida at the Sativa club; one of Scotland's most successful club nights of the early nineties, and a place that paved the way for up-and-coming Scottish based producers including legends Neil Landstrumm and Tobias Schmidt to experiment with their live sets. After releasing some of the first music from these Edinburgh based producers, the label moved forward signing international artists and setting up a sister label, expanding on it's musical output. This party is also an attempt to regain the Test vibe (another event based at the Sub Club where Steve had a residency), plus the doors will be open until 3am instead of the usual 2am so plenty more time for cake and party poppers. Resident support as usual comes from Ra & Cosanostra with all the visuals provided by that sinister infection, Cuntjunctivitis. [Andrew Cooke]
