DJ Rolando, Sensu, Sub Club, Glasgow, 26 Dec

A sensuble choice indeed

Boxing night sees the Sensu lads, Barry Price and Chris Ingram, continue their habit of providing forward-thinking, musically astute nights for the Sub Club crowd. The bi-monthly Sub Club event always books the best up and coming techno DJs and producers with a minimal flavour and this event is no different as it welcomes the superb DJ Rolando to the world renowned Jamaica Street venue.

Rolando has been DJing for over 20 years and is a true expert of his craft. Real name Roland Rocha, he grew up in a Mexican immigrant family in the techno-obsessed city of Detroit. After learning his trade as a DJ in his formative years, his world was transformed after hearing Jeff Mills DJing as techno first started to break through. After meeting with the excellent 'Mad' Mike Banks, a Detroit producer and DJ, he became part of the Underground Resistance group and label, an enigmatic musical machine that still defines true Detroit techno. As his abilities improved, Rolando began playing clubs across the globe playing the best techno in all its forms, comprising melody, soul and some very tough beats to critical acclaim.

In recent times Rolando has also done some excellent and much played productions such as Jaguar as well as setting up his own label Los Hermanos. This Boxing night spectacular also sees the ever brilliant Sensu residents such as Francesco Ferri, Alan Belshaw and Paul Ingram rotate and play music of an equal standard to many of the great guests they've booked. All this makes Sensu a truly worthy contender in the busy festive period. [Sean McNamara]
