Dizzee Rascal - Pussyole (Old Skool) (XL Recordings)

Diss records are the nature of the beast in hiphop, but rarely do they become summer anthems, nor do they translate to listeners without alienation, that is, until Old Skool

Following up from the smash hit Sirens, Dizzee Rascal answers all the critics with his latest single Old Skool. A tune dependent on the classic hip-hop break found on It Takes Two by Rob Base and Easy Rock, Dizzee uses Old Skool to respond to the Godfather of Grime, Wiley's song entitled A Letter to Dizzee. The second verse details how the two artists, once on the same label and with the same management, parted ways: "A friend in need is a friend indeed, but a friend with no money and no weed can flip the script and act ridiculously and can make an x friend for the P." Diss records are the nature of the beast in hiphop, but rarely do they become summer anthems, nor do they translate to listeners without alienation, that is, until Old Skool. [Omar Jenning]
