All good things electronic guaranteed!

Article by Alex Burden | 10 Jun 2007
The dedication of Darren Emerson to the art of DJing began at just 16, when he started to DJ house and techno at local Romford clubs, spending his spare time travelling to London to check out the latest vinyl releases. While still in his teens, he went on to play exciting slots at Limelights, The Milk Bar, and Venus. He eventually took up a 'runner' job on the perhaps not as exciting stock market, but continued to DJ, quickly becoming DJ of the Month in the Face and i-D, and moving into dance music full-time. At the tender age of 18 he had a fortunate meeting with Rick Smith and Karl Hyde; a meeting which would lead to him joining and revitalising Underworld, the band which was later to become infamous for their anthemic Born Slippy track, and its synonymous use with smash-hit flick Trainspotting. More hits and three albums later, Darren left Underworld in 2000, to concentrate on his solo DJing and production work: Underwater Records was to follow and several successful Ibiza seasons. He continues to DJ in the UK at his bi-monthly residency at London's The End, but trying to pin him down in the UK is a rarity these days, so be sure to grab the chance when you can. As always, the legendary Utah Saints will be supporting with a mix of breaks, progressive, house, and techno: all good things electronic guaranteed! [Alex Burden]
