Convextion/$tinkworx/Voltaic (all live), Down Low Music Showcase, Club 69, Paisley, 10 March

A quality alternative to city centre Glasgow clubbing

Feature by Colin Chapman | 11 Apr 2007
The Down Low Music Showcase sees an impressive array of techno talent entertain a packed Club 69, the out-of-town basement venue found underneath a Paisley curry house. Two of Netherland's finest label artists, Convextion and $tinkworx play live, ably supported by unsung Glasgow DJ hero, Rub-A-Dub's Martin McKay and local duo, Voltaic. McKay sets the tone with some atmospheric gems, Voltaic weaving in their electro experiments - the dark but cosy space soon began filling with friendly faces, many seeming to revel in their decision to side-step regular, city centre Saturday nights by venturing out to this truly underground club. $tinkworx eventually steps up with his genre collision of techno-electro-Italo, before Convextion lays down his deep, introspective, Detroit-inspired output. Though it is distinctive, it is perhaps a little esoteric for a peak-time club gig. Nevertheless, a special night that proves there's definitely life outside Glasgow's 'established' clubscene.
