Don't-miss clubs this week

There are still a few nights to get along to outside of the Red Bull Music Academy tour this weekend, though RBMA does dominate things somewhat – more on that below.

Alternatively or in-between, you could check out:

Halcyon: The Metamorphosis with Russ Yallop & more
24 Kitchen Street, 7 Oct, 10pm, £5-£15

Halcyon welcome Crosstown Rebels' Russ Yallop, fresh from his summer taking on the Ibizan superclubs, and match him with Mia Mendi, Meti Memeti and fresh local talent.

Tribe presents Cari Lekebusch
Buyers Club, 7 Oct, 11pm, £12

Less Effect 3rd birthday with DjRUM & Sam Binga
Constellations, 8 Oct, 10pm, £10

Less Effect present two Liverpool debuts to celebrate their third year of putting on great parties: DjRUM, whose productions fuse dubstep, garage and techno, and Sam Binga, who works furious jungle breaks into dancehall vocals, grime synth and hyperactive juke. Less Effect residents and Sheffield's Sinai Sound System are on hype duties, and there's a pre-event warmup in the Constellations bar with some of our faves like Furness, Kepla and more playing from 5pm.

The Wonder Pot x Cold Blooded with Randomer
24 Kitchen Street, 13 Oct, 10pm, £5

The Wonder Pot continue their streak of great bookings with one of the kings of modern techno, Randomer – you'll know him from projects with Hessle Audio, Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. and Dekmantel.

Red Bull Music Academy Liverpool: what to see

The Red Bull Music Academy UK tour lands in Liverpool (6-9 Oct) for the first time this year, and there's a host of great nights to get along to.

Things kick off on 6 Oct with an evening of digital soul at Sefton Park Palm House led by SG Lewis, a former uni student in Liverpool who invites along one of his personal influences, Mercury Prize nominee Jamie Woon. They're joined by Merseyside producer Suedebrown in a celebration of the city's future-soul talents.

The night continues with Credit to the Edit, a party at Buyers Club led by Greg Wilson

Hip hop goes under the microscope on Fri 7 Oct, as Constellations hosts a discussion between Krept & Konan, who'll be chatting about staying true to their roots while breaking into the mainstream. Afterwards, they pop down the road to Camp and Furnace for a live showcase of some of the most vital sounds in UK hip hop right now, joined by acts including Rejjie Snow and Loyle Carner.

Finishing off Friday, Masters at Work legend Kenny Dope takes things into the night at The Merchant, exploring the connections between hip hop and house and supported by the always-impressive Kidkanevil.

Sat 8 Oct welcomes the one and only Moodymann to Invisible Wind Factory. He'll be performing inside the Club Cosmos installation, an immersive musical environment created using laser modules and mirrored kinetic sculptures.

Finally, the weekend comes to a close on Sun 9 Oct with Rhymeantics, a celebration of the art of MCs and poets curated by D Double E of Newham Generals.

And if you can't get along to RBMA Liverpool, fear not: the tour heads to Leeds 27-30 Oct. Check out our preview of a special exhibition documenting the history and energy of grime, which will form part of the Leeds programme, and find full listings with our What's On guide
