Continuing their unbeatable series of free parties headed up by significant names, Distrikt bring us a real treat this pre-Christmas week: an appearance from sonic eccentrist Matthew Herbert, who you may remember for his project charting the life and death of a pig, or his album made with sounds generated by manipulating human hair, skin and internal organs, or his recording of 3500 people biting into an apple at once. Tonight he'll be keeping things weird with a purely 90s set.
In Distrikt's words: "There simply isn't any other word for Matthew Herbert other than genius." He's supported by Butter Side Up's Hamish Cole and Neequaye. From 9pm, free

Acetate #22: Craig Richards & Pearson Sound @ Wire, 3 Feb
Entering their seventh year, Acetate have brought some of the biggest names in contemporary techno and electronica to Leeds: Floating Points, Oneman, Blawan... Not least among them is Pearson Sound; almost a club regular, but always a pleasure to revisit. He's flanked tonight by Craig Richards, long-term Fabric artist-in-residence.
