Candi Staton. Respect is due.

Article by Melissa Thomson | 16 Apr 2006

Were you one of those people who bullied, bribed and blackmailed but still didn't get a ticket for last year's gig? (Interesting fact; given that her day job is a TV preacher in the US I don't think she'd have approved). Well people, here's your chance to quit the bedroom dancing to "that" tune and see the diva in real life. Aside from the thumping classics like You Got The Love she has a repertoire of soul classics from the late 60s/early 70s that are worth discovering before you go, including the Grammy award winning In The Ghetto, and a sweetly hoarse rendition of Stand By Your Man. She credits herself with creating and coining Gosco music (gospel music with a disco beat that greatly influenced garage and house). This lady's not modest, but hey, she's Candi Staton. Respect is due. [Melissa Thomson]
