Hot Off The Comics Press: If You Had To Choose

The first ever appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15 sold for a staggering $1.1 million last week; as ComicConnect.com chief executive Stephen Fishler informed The Associated Press, the Silver Age issue, first published in 1962, was sold on Monday by a private seller to a private buyer – mysterious. The rest of us may have to settle for comics on a more modest budget – with that here are The Skinny’s top choices for this week.

Spider-Man does seem to be swinging his way all over the news lately and as the wall crawler struggles in the ill-fated Broadway musical why not get in the spirit of things and pick up Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #155 written by Brian Michael Bendis. As we all fall foul of the hype that this “Death of Spider-Man” storyline will be the biggest Marvel story in years why not check out the grim tales of Peter Parker as he celebrates his rather youthful 16th birthday.

Over at DC Comics it seems they can’t see the Bruce Waynes for the Batmen in Batman, Incorporated #3 by Glaswegian writer Grant Morrison. As we’re bogged down with yet another two Batman titles if you want dark, go Dark Horse with B.P.R.D.: Hell on Earth – Gods #3. This lighter fantasy tale sees Abe Sapien (of Hellboy) tackling bats of the huge bestial kind.

Finally if you’re looking for the true indie alternative and you haven’t seen the hit TV show or read the comics then you truly are one of The Walking Dead #82 by Robert Kirkman. This is one of the strongest running titles on the shelf today, but if you haven’t picked one up before then do yourself a favour and take your first infected bite with The Walking Dead Vol.1 graphic novel.
