The winner of the 2016 Dundee International Book Prize will receive a £5,000 cash prize and a publishing deal with Freight Books, winners of the Publisher of the Year category at the 2015 Saltire Literary Awards.

Previous winners of the prize include Nicola White, Amy Mason and Malcolm Archibald, with last year's prize picked up by Martin Cathcart Froden for Devil Take The Hindmost. Froden's debut novel, set in the amphetamine-fuelled world of velodrome cycling in 1920s London, is due for release via Freight in June.

Announcing the launch of this year's prize, Peggy Hughes of organisers Literary Dundee said: “This is a brilliant time of year for Literary Dundee, when Dundee International Book Prize submissions start arriving. It’s a really exciting process for us, and with the standard and volume getting better and bigger each year, the bar is very high. It’s a privilege to read work from debut authors from all over the world and we can't wait for those manuscripts to start arriving.”

Entries for the 2016 Dundee International Book Prize close at midnight on 19 February; the winner will be announced in October 2016 as part of the Dundee Literary Festival.
