Comic Book Guy: Glasgow goes Gotham

Blog by Thom Atkinson | 25 May 2011

Glasgow, twinned with no fewer than eight cities including the splendour of Turin in Italy and the creolized vibe of Havana, Cuba, can now add one more to the list: Gotham City, as Christopher Nolan's latest Batman film The Dark Knight Rises is set to shoot in Scotland's largest city.
Filming has already commenced on the follow-up to Nolan's record breaking The Dark Knight in London and, although the film will not be released until 2012, the promotional trail has begun. Glasgow will double for exterior scenes within TDKNR, so it is unconfirmed just how long or just whom will be present for the shoot.

Previously scouted as a location for The Dark Knight, Glasgow was passed over in favour of  Chicago - needless to say this is a great deal for the city to have another go at a Hollywood career, and no doubt has got the residents' interests peaked.
A source told the Daily Record: “He [Nolan] plans to use various cities to provide a mash-up of what Gotham will look like” adding “The city centre architecture is hugely impressive. But he will be filming in secret....that said, if you see a man in body armour driving a big Batmobile down Sauchiehall Street, it's Batman.”
This latest tale of the Caped Crusader will star the returning Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Michael Caine as Alfred, with newcomers Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. The latter has had his first official image released online to rev up the hype machine.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released in the UK on July 20 2012
