The Skinny’s Events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival: David Sedaris and David Simon.

Sedaris. Simon. Skinny.

Feature by Keir Hind | 11 Jun 2009

As some of you may have noticed, the programme for the Edinburgh International Book Festival was released today. And The Skinny is proud to be the sponsors of two of this year's events:

David Sedaris will be appearing on Saturday 22 August from 3.30-4.30pm. Sedaris is a (highly recommended) essayist and short story writer, who will be reading from his latest collection, When You Are Engulfed in Flames. Sedaris has been described as a ‘humorist’ and won the Thurber Prize for American Humor in 2001 (other recipients include the writing staff of The Onion, and the writers of The Daily Show). However, he’s a versatile writer and his talents are by no means confined to comedy. We suggest that you come along to find out more…

David Simon will be appearing on Saturday 29 August from 8-9pm. Simon is best known know as the creator and one of the writers of the hit TV series The Wire, but before his televisual success he was a journalist who wrote two outstanding books, Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-city Neighbourhood (both of which the Skinny gave 5-star ratings). He’ll be talking about his work to a no doubt packed audience - Simon’s talk at the GFT last year sold out very quickly, so book early, and book often!

Tickets for both events go on sale from 8.30am on 22 June. They can be booked in person on the first day at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, 150 Morrison Street, Edinburgh, and thereafter will be available to buy from 10am-5pm, Mon-Sat at The Hub, Castlehill, Edinburgh EH1 2NE.

Bookings can also be made by phone at 0845 373 5888 or online, at http://www.edbookfest.co.uk
