Scottish Books Events: June 2026
Book launches, zine making and a fantasy and sci-fi festival are here to meet all your literary needs this month
What better way to get your summer reading list sorted than with a whole slew of book events this month? For the fantasy fanatics, Cymera Festival returns to Edinburgh from 5-7 June with a programme of events and workshops revolving around all things fantasy, sci-fi and horror, featuring authors like Shannon Chakraborty, Soraya Bouazzaoui and Eris Young. There's more horror at Lighthouse Bookshop as Kat Dunn launches her latest novel Rotten Heart on 9 June; she'll also be doing a Glasgow launch at Waterstones Argyle Street on 10 June. Also at Argyle Street, Lex Croucher launches their dark academia novel The Unmagical Life of Briar Jones on 12 June, while Hamnet author Maggie O'Farrell launches her latest novel Land at the Glasgow University Union on 8 June.
Over at The Portobello Bookshop, Jackie Kay celebrates her storied career for Porty Pride (3 Jun), literary magazine Extra Teeth launches its eleventh issue on 5 June, Olivia Laing celebrates the paperback launch of The Silver Book on 9 June, and Daisy Dixon launches Depraved: The Story of Dangerous Art with our Art Editor Rachel Ashenden on 25 June. And for more hands-on literary shenanigans, do some drop-in zine making at Glasgow Zine Library on 17 June, or head to Inn Deep's poetry night on 1, 15 and 29 June.
