Hot Off The Comics Press: Picks Of The Week 10 August

With the summer and the Festival raging on, let’s take a look at what’s filling up the Comics shelf space this week.

Let’s start with Mark Millar's Clint #10 which includes Beat My Score, a new strip from Festival funny man Jimmy Carr. Also rammed into these jam-packed pages are the latest installments of Kick-Ass 2 and Superior, with exclusive news on the Nemesis movie.

One high-flying title that’s recently landed on the shelves is Red Wing, by the acclaimed writer Johnathan Hickman. If you missed the first issue, hit the back catalogue to catch up then delve into Red Wing #2 out this week. Flyboys and time-travel root this paradox of a title deep in enemy history, as the Captain of the First Wing struggles to find a way home.

Possibly the most recommend title is Scott Snyder's American Vampire, and for good reason: it's excellent. American Vampire Survival of the Fittest #3 (of 5) is a mini-series companion to the main on-going title; it may be half-way through, but sink your fangs in, you won't regret it.

And last but by no means least is possibly the greatest comic book writer of all time, Alan Moore, and the hard cover release of Storyteller. Renowned as trailblazing, innovative, inspiring and monumentally important to the development of the visual narrative, Moore's work has included Watchmen, V for Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This book (out now) had the writer's cooperation and support (unlike his movies) and draws on unpublished interviews with rare art and photos. This hard cover is a must-buy for the hardcore fan.
