Studio Projects 22 & 23 @ Market Gallery
Market Gallery runs an extensive residency programme, showcasing young artists in the east end of Glasgow. For two months this autumn the gallery gives over its two generous spaces to recent graduates Kari Stewart and Kate V Robertson, with the exhibition running from 12 September to 9 October.
Taking the sea as a starting point, Kari Stewart will look at our relationship to landscape and simulated spaces. With reference to institutions, power structures and the mythology inherent in them, Stewart will use video and drawing to observe the life between the cracks of these pertinent facets of our shared existence.
Next door, Kate V Robertson will make a giant rock during her residency, allowing passersby to watch the gradual process of its construction. Referencing the myth of Sisyphus, in which the Greek King Sisyphus is said to eternally push a rock up and down a hill as punishment from the Gods, Robertson will look at the absurdity and futility of existence.
Both recent graduates from Glasgow’s MFA program, this should be an insight into what lies in store for the Glasgow art scene.
