Scottish Art Highlights: June 2026
Glasgow International uplifts homegrown creativity and community projects with exhibitions across the city, while a Sandra George retrospective and an installation by Katie Paterson arrives in Edinburgh
Glasgow International (5-21 Jun), Scotland’s biennial festival of contemporary art, features multimedia work from over 50 artists in more than 20 spaces across the city. Dyke Just Do It promises an exhilarating start to the festival on 5 and 6 June, with Sweatmother collaborating with emily claid and Mirabelle Haddon in a live, expanded cinema experience that explores “dyke counternarratives, anti-assimilation and queer desire.” You can find a full preview of highlights from the festival in our June issue.
Over to Edinburgh, where Katie Paterson presents Afterlife at Collective from 19 June. This serene, politically-charged installation is comprised of nearly 200 amulets created with materials sourced from endangered landscapes and fragile ecosystems. Towards the end of the month, an exhibition devoted to the late community worker and photographer Sandra George opens at City Art Centre. Open from 27 June, Sandra George: Start from the Level displays over 200 photographs from her archive.
It’s also Degree Show season – a chance to see how Scotland’s emerging artists are responding to the Zeitgeist. Glasgow School of Art’s showcase is open until 7 June, while Edinburgh College of Art closes on 5 June.
