David Shrigley Book Launch @ Mono, 23 Sep

Article by Andrew Cattanach | 08 Sep 2010

Glasgow is a tiny village in the west coast of Scotland where everyone knows everyone else and pretty much all the inhabitants are in a band with someone who is also in another band, forming an uninterrupted chain connecting all the bands in the city.

Well, it sometimes feels a bit like that. And testament to this impression is the launch party for David Shrigley’s new book, The Essential David Shrigley, at Mono on 23 September. Not only will Shrigley be DJing and signing copies of his new book, he has also invited along his favourite band, Correcto, which includes the drummer from Franz Ferdinand and last year’s Turner Prize winner Richard Wright.

Shrigley, best known for his crappy drawings that he sometimes puts in newspapers and collects in books, has exhibited widely and created music videos and cover art for Hot Chip, Blur and Franz Ferdinand. Hidden in one copy of the new book on sale at the event is a golden ticket, giving fans the chance to win the original artwork of the launch poster. You might as well head along there at 8pm. All your friends will be there anyway.
