On the site of the former Rottenrow maternity hospital, on the grounds of Strathclyde University, is Rottenrow Gardens. Homage to its past is paid in the form of George Wylie's Monument to Maternity, a seven-metre high stainless steel nappy pin, with a tiny bird perched on top. The gardens were opened in 2004 to celebrate 40 years of Strathclyde University, and they're a delightful place to picnic in between lectures or take a leisurely stroll. Parts of the original hospital have been well preserved as features of the garden, alongside newer additions like the herbaceous terrace and wetland area.
