You’ve probably heard of the Glasgow Miracle. Glasgow-based artists have been at the forefront of contemporary art in the UK for the last couple of decades, and the Turner Prize has been dominated in recent years by artists who trained or work in the city. Part of this success is down to the wealth of galleries and exhibition spaces in Glasgow.
Since 2005, Glasgow International, the city’s world-renowned festival of contemporary art, has taken place biennially in April, taking over venues throughout Glasgow.
One of the jewels of Glasgow’s art galleries is the The Burrell Collection, which includes ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman pieces, and well as paintings from some of the European masters like Rodin, Degas and Cézanne.
For modern and contemporary art, The Gallery of Modern Art is home to a world-class permanent collection of both Scottish and international modern art, as well as a regularly changing exhibiting programme. Glasgow’s Contemporary Centre for Arts (CCA) and Tramway also offers a dynamic programme of contemporary performance and art.
We’ve curated the best guide to Glasgow art exhibition and gallery listings, including permanent exhibits, pop-up events and including both Scottish artists and international talent.
