You’ve probably never been into The Savings Bank on Bridge Street, but you will definitely have walked past it. Located across the road from The Laurieston on the well-trodden strip of pavement from the town centre towards Bridge Street subway station and the O2 Academy, this former bank is a hidden gem of the highest order.

The Victorian building doesn't look like much from street level, but behind its unassuming door hides a well-maintained piece of Glasgow history, featuring architectural and stylistic curiosities from a former time. A real feast for the eyes, there is so much to look at here: from the large domed roof, original panelled walls and ornate chandeliers to the spiral staircase up to the mezzanine level, which acts as a sort of indoor balcony – a good vantage point for the grand piano below.

Generally only open for private events, such as family parties, weddings and photography showcases, The Savings Bank recently opened its doors to the public for the first time, hosting movie nights ahead of Christmas 2018. Their fully stocked bar and catering options make it a great spot for pop-up events in the city. If you see something happening at The Savings Bank, get yourself a ticket just to get inside. It’s a place really worth seeing.
