Northern Soul Grilled Cheese

We didn't know that Manchester city centre was badly in need of a top class grilled cheese sandwich restaurant, but now that Northern Soul Grilled Cheese has quickly established itself as one of the most popular places to go to for food on the go we can scarcely remember what things were like before its arrival.

Based on Church Street opposite the Arndale Markets, Northern Soul Grilled Cheese opened in early 2015 and quickly expanded in size, with its range of gourmet cheese sandwich offerings, soups and shakes around the £6 range providing more than plenty of bite for your buck. The menu is known to change from time to time, but at the heart of each grilled cheese sandwich is a three-cheese blend on sourdough bread, which is then built on — with all sorts available from pulled pork to avocado, bacon and even mac 'n' cheese for those of you for whom a triple hit of dairy just isn't enough.

Not just for people on the move, Northern Soul takes its cue from the laidback diners of New York, with its stripped down premises a natural place to kick back on your lunch hour or even post-work. [William Gunn]
