Barbakan Deli

This continental bakery was established over 50 years ago, and has been a firm favourite with the residents of Chorlton and beyond ever since. With their roots in Eastern Europe, much of their produce is inspired by recipes from Poland, as well as Germany, Italy and Spain. The family run business sells bread and cakes baked daily, with chocolate bread, sourdough loaves, olive bread and many other varieties that you won’t find on a typical supermarket shelf, or even in many other bakeries. For those with a sweet tooth, you can also get your hands on giant cookies, apple doughnuts, florentines and even a ‘Polish Twix’. Their deli counter stocks olives, freshly made salads, pates, and meats and cheese from all over the world. The deli also doubles up as a cafe, with indoor and outdoor seating where you can enjoy sandwiches made from freshly baked ciabatta bread, as well as croissants, quiche, stew, and Greek and Italian platters. On Saturdays they get their outdoor grill out and sell barbecued sausages, complete with caramelised onions and fried potatoes on freshly made rolls - the perfect hangover cure.
