Locavore is an exciting store which popped up a couple of years ago on Victoria Road. This social enterprise is the only shop in the city with a commitment to changing and re-educating the way we shop for food.

Determined to supply food which is locally – and it really is local, with produce coming from their farm just outside Glasgow – and sustainably produced. The shop itself has a chilled-out hip vibe, the type of place you imagine is pretty commonplace in California. Wooden shelves are piled high with bulk quantities of nuts, seeds, pasta and rice; you can even churn up nut butters to your own liking.

Vegetables look freshly pulled up from the ground – gnarly and muddy, the real deal. Zero waste is on the agenda too. Locavore is the kind of place where you can bring along your own reusable containers and buy stuff in bulk, free from the unnecessary packaging you’re being served elsewhere. There’s a little café in there as well, serving coffees, soups and sandwiches made from their products – as good an advert as you can get for the quality of the ingredients for sale.

Every year, The Skinny holds a Food & Drink Survey, where we give you the opportunity to vote for the best restaurants, pubs and cafes in town. Locavore scored high in our 2019 Food & Drink Survey, earning a well-deserved spot in the Best Food and Drink Shop category.
