‘Epicurean’ is a nice wee nugget of language, isn't it? It relates to the Greek philosopher Epicurus, who spun a particular brand of hedonism, and is used to describe something suited for someone who takes particular pleasure in fine food and drink.

Whether or not the sleepy Glasgow suburb of Hyndland will take a place in history alongside Homer et al. is questionable, but Epicures of Hyndland does have a particularly decadent, seductive quality to it. Seated on a corner along Hyndland Road, the large open windows, gentle lighting and gorgeous mezzanine combine to create an invitation that's pretty hard to turn down. Inside one can find a hearty, meat-eater orientated lunch menu with fresh sandwiches, generous platters, and a good combination of simple-but-well-done dishes and more exotic offerings. Highlights from the dinner menu include the escargots, the freshly-made ravioli, and hand-made chocolate truffles for dessert. If you’re just popping in for a drink, the Daiquiri and Gin Daisy are both excellent.

However, be aware that all this decadence comes at a price in keeping with its luxury. Epicures does a good job of presenting itself as a space for any kind of refreshment, and not just a restaurant – an evening drink or a quick sandwich, perhaps. However, regardless of what you're up to, it will leave a dent in your wallet. But, oh, is it worth it.
