The Burrell collection is a group of over 8,000 artefacts gifted to the city of Glasgow by shipping magnate Sir William Burrell. As he specified that the museum had to be housed 17 miles from the city centre it wasn't until Pollock estate was donated to the city that it found its home in Pollock Country Park. The building itself is a fascinating exhibit, ingeniously designed to showcase the diverse collection. Burrell's assortment of stained glass and a reclaimed archway from a ruined church in France are built into the interiors of the building. The museum houses a wide range of exhibits including artefacts from ancient civilisations and a large selection of Chinese, Gothic and Islamic art. Additionally, The Burrell collection hosts regular temporary exhibitions as well as a programme of events for adults and families year-round. See their website for full details.
