Groucho's

Groucho's is an independent record store situated on the Dundee's Perth Road. The shop first opened there in 1976 after two friends decided to start a business with £500 and an extensive record collection between them.

Since then, the shop has undergone several moves and changes to ensure that the shop has kept up with the times before settling at its current location on the Nethergate, at the heart of the student area in Dundee. Still owned by original founder Breeks, the record store is a multi-award-winning institution, renowned as an independent retailer of second-hand CDs, DVDs, rare vinyl and singles, and their blatant refusal to stock anything by the Bay City Rollers.

Previously known as Breeks, the shop also sold items of clothing and footwear. Although there is more of an emphasis on music now, the shop also sells Groucho's merchandise, including T-shirts, badges and totebags, but merely being seen with the shop’s carrier bag is enough of a fashion statement among discerning record collectors.

As well as buying, trading and selling records, CDs, cassettes and DVDs in store, Groucho's regularly participates in Dundee’s Record and CD Fair. With the shopfront covered in upcoming gig posters, Groucho's is a compendium of all gigs happening in Dundee and the surrounding area, with tickets available for purchase inside.
