The Star and Garter

The Star and Garter is a legendary Manchester pub and music venue and home to two of the city's longest running club nights - Smile and The Morrissey Smiths Disco.

You'll find it in a grade II listed building on Fairfield Street which is a relic of the anti-glitz, old-school Manchester. Over the years it's had a buzzing programme of gigs and live entertainment and is still going strong today.

Best known for its Smiths disco that's been running for more than 20 years, Manchester's Star and Garter is a magnet for Morrissey lovers. The Morrissey Smiths Disco takes place once a month and, you guessed it,  it plays The Smiths classics all night long. Its other popular night, Smile, is an indie night that takes place every Saturday where you'll hear the likes of Pulp, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and David Bowie.

Tucked around the corner from Piccadilly station, this venue is open to over 18s only so do be prepared to show ID on entry. As for a dress code, it doesn't matter whether you're dressed up or wearing jeans and an old t-shirt. [Laura Maclean]
