The Comedy Store
The flagship London venue rolls out the best in stand-up all week long, so expect nothing less than a little bit of divine comedy in its Manchester sibling, a 500-seater theatre. Weekends boast a roadshow-style format, with up to five comics sharing the stage (though usually not at once, unless they've cooked up a bizarre group musical encore). Midweek shows offer extended sets, while the Sunday night slot is alternately filled by newbie standups battling one another with words, or established comedians debuting new material on an audience of guinea-pigs. If the experimental stuff is truly dire, The Skinny suggests you visit The Comedy Store's rather luxe bar/restuarant area and bury your sorrows in a vat of oven-baked Italian meatballs. They're that good.
