Alla Turca
The recipient of rave reviews from a fleet of discerning Sunday supplements, Alla Turca's special something lies in its combination of authentic Turkish ambience with some seriously good food. The joyfully soaring jangle of traditional Turkish music from local artist Armagan Alakus shimmies its way around the restaurant six nights a week, while the venue holds Turkish nights with special meal deals, live music and dancing on the last weekend of every month (see website for details).
Rather than overpowering the dining experience, all of this entertainment only heightens appreciation of the dishes themselves. Expect the popular - falafel and humus - as well as the more unusual - barbequed swordfish shish - with every item on the menu prepared to an exceptional standard.
Desserts are not to be ignored under any circumstances, even if your stomach is groaning in protest; the traditional baklava, and Turkish chocolate mousse in particular are not worth missing out on, and to wash them down, Alla Turca serve complimentary champagne cocktails with every pud. Done deal.
