Halloween Happenings

With a screening of Psycho scored live by the inimitable Manchester Camerata, a night of paranormal activity and free pizza at FACT, some spooky comedy from The Delightful Sausage, an evening with 'horror master' John Carpenter and an apocalyptic Voodoo Ball just a tip of the iceberg on the ol' Halloween events calendar, it seems the North's firing out some seasonal corkers this week... In the meantime, you can also swot up on the legacy of Alfred Hitchcock and explore his role as the master of suspense, having influenced so many chilling classics in the decades that followed his seminal 1960s flick.

Museums at Night

Red Bull Music Academy: Leeds
Various venues, Leeds. Thu 27-Sun 30 Oct, times vary
The RBMA tour touches down in Yorkshire this week – not only for its last stint of 2016, but also for its first ever time in Leeds! Toot toot. Speaking of landmarks, as part of the programme, DJ Harvey (pictured) will be returning to Leeds for the first time in almost 20 years for Discopolis. You can find out about that and more here.

Beacons Metro
Various venues, Leeds. Thu 27-Mon 7 Nov, times vary
Trading in its autumn/winter season format in favour of a more focused programme spanning a week-and-a-bit, Beacons Metro kicks off for a stab at 2016, this time promising live sets from the likes of Dinosaur Jr, Local Natives (pictured), Lady Leshurr, Hookworms, Anna Meredith, Fucked Up and Roots Manuva. Advertisement | Manchester Coffee Festival: Cup North
Victoria Warehouse, Manchester. Sat 5-Sun 6 Nov, 10am

Manchester Coffee Festival (aka Cup North) is back next week with a bang! The festival programme is brimming with brand new features set to keep attendees on a day-long high of caffeine-fuelled fun.

Visitors can take part in one of the many coffee cuppings (that's coffee tasting to you); engage with brewers and try coffee blossom beer; take a lesson in latte art; learn about coffee by-products in the Sustainability Hub, and sample espresso from one of 35 exhibitors! Foodies can look forward to old favourites Barnhouse Bistro, Honest Crust and, new for 2016, Dim Sum Su. Tickets available at the Manchester Coffee Festival website.

LightPool
Various venues, Blackpool. Fri 28 Oct-Wed 2 Nov, times vary
Blackpool's long been associated with illuminations, and now, to celebrate precisely that, it welcomes its first LightPool Festival. The free six-day festival will feature a light art trail comprising work by over 20 artists including Bob and Roberta Smith, Steve Messam and Compagnie Bilbobasso. Oh and only YOKO BLEEDIN' ONO. No biggie.

Juncture
Various venues, Leeds. Thu 27-Sun 30 Oct, times vary
Taking place at Yorkshire Dance and other venues in Leeds, Juncture is a festival of contemporary dance curated by Gillie Kleiman exploring what happens when dance is brought into other areas of culture such as art and theatre. Jerwood / Photoworks Awards 2015
Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool. Sat 28 Oct-Sun 18 Dec
Better late than never, work by the winners of the 2015 Jerwood/Photoworks Award heads to Liverpool this week, pitching up at Open Eye until December. Featuring pieces by Matthew Finn, Tereza Zelenkova and Joanna Piotrowska, the exhibition showcases compelling black and white photography from three early career artists with a lot of promise in 'em.

Looking ahead: Storyhouse in Chester
