Dinosaur Jr, Fucked Up added to Beacons Metro

Leeds-based festival Beacons Metro has announced a second wave of acts for 2016, including Dinosaur Jr, Fucked Up and Cats Eyes

Promising a more concentrated and focussed programme for its second edition, following a sprawling line-up in 2015, the festival has added Massachusetts indie rock pioneers Dinosaur Jr to the bill, following their return to action with the announcement of 11th studio album Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Famed for their squalling noisepop, the J Mascis-fronted trio bring their legendarily loud live show to Leeds Uni Stylus.

Cut from a similarly noisy cloth are Toronto punk collective Fucked Up, whose blend of hardcore punk and adventurous melodicism provides the basis for a formidable live presence. They visit Belgrave Music Hall as part of their 10th anniversary tour for debut double LP Hidden World, while Cat's Eyes (the collaboration between Horrors frontman Faris Badwan and classical musician Rachel Zeffira) showcase their Spector-influenced pop at Howard Assembley Room.

Also added to the bill are Birmingham hip-hop star Lady Leshurr, Oli Bayston's Boxed In project,  Nashville garage-punks Diarrhea Planet, rising American songwriter Margaret Glaspy and hometown eletro-pop hero Krrum.

Previously announced

Promoters Super Friendz have put together a line-up of artists from the worlds of pop, techno, grime, psych and beyond, who will play a selection of Leeds venues at the end of October and beginning of November. South London MC and producer Roots Manuva will play an intimate show at Belgrave Music Hall, while Leeds' own psych darlings Hookworms will co-curate an evening at Holy Trinity Church.

Acclaimed composer Anna Meredith will also take to Belgrave, with synth and sax pair XAM Duo (comprising members of Hookworms and Deadwall) in support, plus more guests to be announced. On the biggest stage of the festival at Stylus (Leeds University) will be Los Angeles quintet Local Natives.

Elsewhere, Headrow House plays host to Ninja Tune soundscapers The Invisible and NYC buzz band WALL; and a four-strong line-up of Ghetts, Frisco, Elf Kid and AJ Tracey at Belgrave Music Hall completes the first raft of announcements.

Beacons Metro grew out of the celebrated Beacons festival in 2015. Of this year's line-up, head booker Ben Lewis said: “Beacons Metro 2016 will be the culmination of an extremely exciting year of shows for Super Friendz. Having brought the likes of John Grant, Savages, Animal Collective, Explosions In The Sky, Polica, Diiv and Connan Mockasin to Leeds in 2016, the Beacons Metro series gives us the chance to bring together our some of our favourite, and some of the most exciting musicians around.”

Tickets are on pre-sale through festival partners DICE, and go on general sale at the start of July. Season passes and individual show tickets are available.
