Sounds from the Other City 2017: full line-up
Salford's annual celebration of new music, art and performance Sounds from the Other City has unveiled its complete line-up for 2017.
Bringing together Greater Manchester's best DIY and independent promoters to programme multiple stages along Chapel Street and the surrounding area, Sounds from the Other City (30 April) is famed for its eclectic and immersive atmosphere. This year the festival is art-directed by IMPA TV with their 'Sound of the New Dawn' theme, which will provide the backdrop for acts including Liverpool-based Iranian rapper Farhood and the festival debut from OTOMO X (Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan of Savages with Martin Dubka).
Other festival highlights just announced include breezy indie-rockers Luxury Death (watch them in session here), explosive psych-rock supergroup Sex Swing, the full Comfortable on a Tightrope stage featuring lo-fi maverick turned searing rock machine Irma Vep, a pizza party at Vero Moderno from Islington Mill's in-house promoters Fat Out, NTS Radio DJs who'll be broadcasting live from Islington Mill, and pop-up performances around the site from spoken word/poetry collective Young Identity.
They join already announced names including Flamingods, The Lovely Eggs, The Orielles, Patty Hearst and Vanishing Twin on stages programmed by the likes of Now Wave, Bad Uncle, Grey Lantern and many more, plus a comedy line-up from celebrated local funnymen Sham Bodie that includes delightful surrealist duo Sam & Tom.
New collaborators for this year include Manchester club legends Aficionado and Hebden Bridge’s arts/music festival Inkfolk – plus Manchester Midi School, who'll be hosting DJs, live acts and a bar area at their premises on Chapel Street.
New commissions include a highly anticipated collaboration between Liverpool minimal/modern classical outfit Ex-Easter Island Head with members of the BBC Philharmonic and folk musician Laura Cannell, who'll present a site-specific composition in Salford Cathedral.
