Liverpool Music Week 2016: First bands revealed

Horrors side project Cat's Eyes join this year's bill, alongside Manchester's GoGo Penguin and hotly-tipped Mersyside favourites Clean Cut Kid and She Drew The Gun

Following the announcements of LA post-punks Warpaint and horror movie maestro John Carpenter in recent weeks, Liverpool Music Week has unveiled further details of this year's line-up.

The 2016 edition of LMW will feature Cat's Eyes (a duo consisting of The Horrors' Faris Badwan and opera soprano, composer and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Zeffira; Leaf, 3 Nov) and Manchester-based Mercury nominees GoGo Penguin (Arts Club, 1 Nov).

Liverpool locals Clean Cut Kid also take their place among the festival headliners (Arts Club, 29 Oct), following their recent signing to Babe Magnet Records/Polydor and an ever-hectic live schedule. Representing the other side of the water are the Wirral's own She Drew The Gun (Leaf, 30 Oct), who released their debut album Memories of the Future through The Coral's Skeleton Key Records earlier this year. Both will curate their own nights during the festival.

Tickets for all shows are on sale now from liverpoolmusicweek.com and seetickets.com. 2016 also sees the launch of limited wristbands, allowing entry to all of this year’s shows for just £50.

Now in its 12th year, LMW will put the spotlight on the city's most unique venues, focussed especially on the Arts Club – a long term focal point for the city's music scene thanks to its history as The Masque. There are also shows at the picturesque, Grade II-listed Liverpool Dome and Grand Central Hall, while Carpenter's performance takes place just outside the city centre in the spectacular Liverpool Olympia ballroom.

Launching the festival, LMW founder and director Mike Deane said: "We are so thrilled to be bringing such an iconic international artist to the city in John Carpenter as this year's headliner in one of Liverpool's most iconic and stunning venue spaces. We expect this to go down as one of the festival's most legendary nights since our first, in 2003. We're also very pleased to announce two of the most exciting breakthrough acts – nationally-prominent Clean Cut Kid and She Drew the Gun, both fresh from triumphant and significant Glastonbury weekends.

“Liverpool is buzzing right now, and this announcement is just the tip of the iceberg. It's set to be a very exciting year."
