John Carpenter brings tour to Edinburgh & Liverpool

Horror director and composer John Carpenter will perform some of his iconic film scores on an expanded tour of the UK in October

Feature by Dave Kerr | 28 Jun 2016

Fresh from his show-stealing European debut performance at Primavera this past month, John Carpenter has announced an expansion of his planned UK tour this autumn.

Often cited as a source of inspiration from musicians ranging through Portishead's Geoff Barrow to Clint Mansell via Steve Mason, Carpenter is responsible for the music on a host of 70s and 80s classics including Assault on Precinct 13Halloween, Escape from New York and They Live!.

Carpenter released an album of original material entitled Lost Themes via Brooklyn-based label Sacred Bones earlier in 2015, with a sequel following this past April. When The Skinny originally asked Carpenter about the possibility of performing these recordings live last year it all seemed so unlikely. The horror auteur deadpanned: “Sure, for a million dollars I’ll play live. If I play live… it wouldn’t be easy to replicate this record. There’s still a lot of gear, which would be complicated. It wouldn’t be a simple thing.”

Onstage, he is accompanied by his son Cody Carpenter on synthesizer and his godson Daniel Davies on guitar, with John Spiker on bass, John Konesky on guitar and Scott Seiver on drums.
