Main Point Books – the name says it all. This brilliant wee second-hand bookshop run by Richard Browne is a mecca for fans of the offbeat, an empathy zone for all who love Brautigan and Vonnegut, Orwell and Dick. Many on the path to enlightenment pause here to browse world religions, while those routed on more material manifestations of movement come to plunder the terrestrial travel section for books on trains, planes and cars (situated immediately below Classics). In these sub-prime days, come here to enjoy the counter-intuitive experience of finding your money really does stretch a long way – £2.00 buys three books from the ‘sale’ selection outside the shop. Main Point Books is a home to tomes of most every variety: Poetry & Pugilism, Philosophy & Philology, Climbing & Cooking, Military & Movies, Art and Almost Anything, roost on our shelves. Main Point Books is also the home of textualities.net literary magazine. Its editor Jennie Renton has had a lifetime in books, one way or (many) another. Please seek us out. Situated between a lapdancing club and a church, cheaper than most charity shops, Main Point Books offers soul food and temptation for saints and sinners alike.
