These days, standing out amongst Leith's ever-expanding smorgasbord of indie coffee shops is about as easy as trying to summarise the flavour of Irn Bru. And yet, The Hideout Cafe down on Queen Charlotte Street has done just that.

This colourful little joint has proved a firm favourite with local Leithers and espresso afficionados across the city, and was recently voted one of the country's best cafes in The Skinny Food & Drink Survey 2018.  

The menu may seem simple on first appearance, with firm cafe faves like soups 'n' sandwiches rocking the list, but don't let that deceive you; The Hideout crew have put their own spin on things, and what you're left with is a delicious offering of creative creations, from breakfast through to lunch and beyond. Firm favourites include creamy porridge topped with bananas and nuts, toasted foccacia sandwiches and their deliciously sweet marlenka honey cake, aka the perfect accompaniment to an expertly crafted coffee or chai tea.
